What is Psychotherapy?

It is a verbal interaction between therapist and client aimed at helping them to understand and resolve their problem.

We are all individuals who have a different set of experiences and situations to encounter throughout our lives. Our reactions to these experiences are also unique.

Much of who we are, what we are, what drives and motivates us is hidden from our everyday awareness. We build defence mechanisms to disguise the things we find difficult to cope with.

Psychotherapy seeks to treat the whole person. It can help you explore present circumstances that you are finding difficult, experiences from the past that you find hard to come to terms with, or events in the future that you may be worried about. It helps to validate how you are feeling, how your behaviour may be affected, and also how your body and mind may be responding. Talking to a stranger can be a welcome relief. The therapist will be someone independent from your situation, and thus objective.

Psychotherapy can help you make sense of the emotions that are controlling you, and the experiences that trigger them, it will strengthen your ability to cope. Your self-esteem and self-confidence should also increase, helping you to reach your personal potential.

Psychotherapy literally means ‘treatment of the mind’, Hypnotherapy and Counselling are two approaches contained within this.

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis is simply a pleasant state of deep relaxation during which your awareness, senses and memory are enhanced. It can be instrumental in improving your quality of life in many ways. For example:

Hypnotherapy enables you to tap into your own inner resources. Stress levels can be greatly reduced, confidence gained and emotional problems solved for a happier and healthier life.

Hypnosis is being used increasingly as an adjunct to orthodox medicine where it is proving to be a valuable alternative to drugs or anaesthesia, to accelerate healing, relieve stress and control pain. Many General Practitioners are now encouraging this type of therapy to their patients.

It is important to note that no one can be hypnotised against their will and no one can be forced to do or say things whilst under hypnosis that they do not want to do or say.

Hypnotherapy is completely natural and safe. There are no harmful side- effects. When administered by a professionally trained and skilled Hypnotherapist the benefits are long lasting and often permanent.

During hypnosis, you will be aware of what is happening: most people do not “feel hypnotised.” You are still in control.

What is Counselling?

Counselling is a process whereby the client is encouraged to explore their thoughts, feelings and experience in order to resolve issues and move forward productively.

The counsellor is there to listen, understand and assist with the process. Often the process of simply unburdening oneself to someone who is interested, but not involved, can be very therapeutic! It can make a pleasant change not to be judged.

Counsellors will also work with you to examine reasons for situations and to explore possible avenues for your future.

What is Life Coaching?

Life coaching is a way of effecting change in your life-of building a better future-the one you want. Taking you from where you are now to where you want to be. Imagine a way of discovering real freedom in your life, uncovering your own answers and reaching your hidden potential.

It is a way of providing personal support that is committed to your success & development. Our mutual aim is for you to gain clarity and focus on all aspects of your life.

Coaching exists as a temporary relationship between two people. The relationship depends on absolute commitment from both parties.

Choosing to see a coach is frequently triggered from a client having an awareness that their life has drifted off track, that they have lost their sense of direction, or that their life is out of balance.

Free initial consultation

Prior to starting treatment, Sharon offers all clients an initial consultation. (As an alternative, this can happen by telephone).

The purpose of this is to enable prospective clients to make an informed decision as to whether to enter into a course of treatment. Also for the therapist to decide if therapy is appropriate for the presenting problem.

If taken up, the face-to-face appointment would be of ½ hour duration and there would be no charge made for attending. Following the consultation, there is no obligation whatsoever to book further treatments
